Mini News - Back to School Reminders
Posted on Aug 20th, 2026

Every year it seems school is starting earlier and earlier. Sometimes not early enough for summer-weary parents! And just like teachers will notice students have forgotten how to FOIL their binomials, parents and children may have let some good safety habits slip.

Our first back to school safety reminder is regarding school buses and driving. We have some students in the community who get picked up by the school bus each day. And each day, a car or two forgets the rules of the road in regards to school buses. Straight from the DMV handbook, please remember: "When the bus flashes red lights (located at the top, front, and back of the bus), you must stop from either direction until the children are safely across the street and the lights stop flashing. Remain stopped while the red lights are flashing. If you fail to stop, you may be fined up to $1,000 and your driving privilege could be suspended for one year."

Our second reminder is for those avoiding the drop-off line at Elementary and Middle schools by dropping off around the corner.. It's a good idea to go over some rules of the road with little walkers! Use sidewalks and crosswalks whenever possible; listen to the crossing guards if there are any; try to walk with bigger groups and always watch for cars.

Thank you all for your attention and following the rules of the road!
