Thank you to all the homeowners and residents who attended the Town Hall meeting with the Danville Police Representatives. Chief Allan Shields attended from the DPD and answered many questions from homeowners touching on several very helpful tips for personal safety and security.
Personal Safety and Security Tips:
- Create Time and Distance: When in a situation where you may fear for your personal safety, the best advice Chief Shields had was to find ways to “create time and distance” for yourself. How does one do this?
- Increase your situational awareness.
- Pay attention to your surroundings.
- Stay in well-lit areas.
- Contact the PD Early and Often: Chief Shields noted that no concern is too small to contact them. Often times people are worried they will “bother” the Police or pull them away from something more serious. The DPD is adept at prioritizing homeowner concerns and will always respond as quickly as they can for in process disturbances. Should you contact them even if you’re unsure of the level of danger? Yes:
- Helps them understand the communities they work in
- Gets them involved with people who may need help.
- Creates a record for future police reference in case situations escalate.
- Which helps them prioritize responses in the future.
How to Stay Involved/Aware:
- Sign up for Nixle Alerts.
- Send a text to 888777. In the message of the text put our zip code: 94526.
- You may send multiple texts to get signed up for multiple locations.
- Listen to the Weekly Police Live Show on Facebook (and later posted on YouTube).
- Join the next Citizens Police Academy, a seven week workshop to learn about many different topics including:
- Patrol Procedures, Investigations, Impaired Driving Crime Prevention, and more!
- Two are offered a year and the next one starts in March!
We hope this meeting was helpful and were so glad that to see such a high level of participation from the membership. Don’t forget, the Board has regular HOA meetings at the clubhouse, just a short walk from your home! The next is scheduled for March 20, 2024 at 6:30 PM.
